Stream your PC games to an LG TV

Punktfunk has a native app for LG webOS TVs, built by dyptan-io. It streams up to 4K120 with HDR through the TV's own video hardware.

The biggest screen in many homes is an LG TV, and webOS has few apps for streaming games from a PC. Punktfunk has a native one.

Built by dyptan-io

dyptan-io wrote the webOS client on Punktfunk's open core, taught it to use the TV's hardware video decoder, and donated it to the project. It lives at punktfunk/client-webos. If you enjoy streaming to your LG, dyptan-io is the one to thank.

What it does

  • Up to 4K120 with HDR, in H.264 or HEVC, decoded by the TV's video hardware. A 10-bit SDR setting smooths gradients without HDR. There is no AV1 and no PyroWave: the TV's decoder doesn't take them.
  • Two interfaces. Pointer menus for the Magic Remote, and the Punktfunk controller UI once a gamepad connects.
  • Input. Gamepads, USB keyboard and mouse, the Magic Remote as a pointer, and a DualSense with adaptive triggers, lightbar, haptics and its speaker.
  • Your library. The host's games with cover art, your collections, and per-game profiles.
  • Sound. Stereo, 5.1 or 7.1.
  • Host power. Wake-on-LAN starts a sleeping PC, and a speed test picks a bitrate that fits your network.

Which TVs

webOS 5 or newer gets all of this, except the DualSense extras, which need webOS 10. webOS 3.5 and 4.x get H.264 in SDR, in stereo. The client is tested on an LG CX (webOS 5.6) and a G5 (webOS 10).

Install it

The client isn't in LG's Content Store. It's in the Homebrew Channel, the community app store for webOS:

  1. Install the Homebrew Channel on your TV. Its getting-started guide walks you through it.
  2. In the Homebrew Channel, install Punktfunk.
  3. Open Punktfunk, pick your PC or add it by IP, and pair with a PIN, or choose Request access and approve it in the web console.

Updates arrive through the Homebrew Channel too.

Turn on Game Optimizer

While a stream runs, turn on Game Optimizer in the TV's picture menu. webOS remembers it for the app, and it is the biggest input-lag win your panel has. On a rooted TV, the client's Game mode setting switches picture and sound for you and restores them afterwards.
